Ratan Naval Tata, one of India’s most respected industrialists and philanthropists, was born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai. He is the great-grandson of Jamsetji Tata, the founder of the Tata Group. After completing his early education in Mumbai, he studied architecture at Cornell University and later pursued the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Ratan Tata began his career with the Tata Group in 1962, working on the shop floor of Tata Steel. He gradually rose through the ranks and, in 1991, succeeded J.R.D. Tata as the Chairman of Tata Sons. Under his visionary leadership, the group expanded globally, acquiring major brands such as Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover, and Corus Steel. His bold initiatives transformed the Tata Group into a global powerhouse while maintaining its reputation for ethics and social responsibility.

One of his most ambitious projects was the launch of the Tata Nano in 2008, aimed at providing affordable mobility to millions of Indian families. Beyond business, Ratan Tata has been deeply committed to philanthropy, with the majority of Tata Sons’ profits directed toward education, healthcare, and rural development through charitable trusts.

Even after retiring in 2012, he remains an influential figure, admired for his humility, integrity, and vision. Widely regarded as the face of ethical leadership in India, Ratan Tata’s legacy continues to inspire entrepreneurs and leaders around the world.
